Valentines Gifts for the Kids

Spread the cheer this Valentine’s day throughout the whole family and celebrate with your kids. Even though the day should be about you and your significant other, let the kids join the fun and give them a small Valentine’s Day gift. Watch their faces light up as they open up the little surprise and realize how much you love them! Here are six easy Valentine’s gifts that your kids are sure to love.

Candy & Snacks
Every kid loves candy. This idea is a gift your kids will definitely enjoy. Go to any local store you frequent and pick up some bags of your child’s favorite candy or snack. While your at it, pick up a small basket that you can put the candy in (go for a heart shaped basket for the occasion). Once you’re home and you know your kid isn’t around, set up the basket with all the wonderful goodies you bought and hide it. When the day arrives, place the basket where your child will see it and watch how his or her face lights up as they realize how much you love them.

The Latest Toy They’ve Been Eyeing
If your child has been eyeing up a toy recently, now is the perfect time to get it. Show them you care and pay attention to them by getting the toy they’ve been yearning for or didn’t get for Christmas. However, if the toy they want is on the expensive side, don’t feel like you’re obligated to get it. Try to find a different toy or try out one of the other gift ideas on the list!

Clothes
Clothes are always a great idea for a present. Your kids are constantly growing so they’ll need new clothes when they grow out of them. Buy your kid a cute outfit that they can wear on the holiday. This gift might be practical, but it’s still enjoyable, especially for older kids who are really into what they wear.

Fun Crafts
This is the perfect idea for a Valentine’s gift if your child loves to get creative. Finding fun crafts that your child will enjoy will keep them entertained for hours. Go to the closest arts and crafts store and pick out some supplies for projects you know your child will love. Then, when you get home wrap it up and hide it until Valentine’s Day. Your artsy kid will be overjoyed when they see they have a new project to unleash their creativity!

Homemade Treats
To kids, homemade treats are just like candy. They’ll love to see a basket full of their favorite homemade goodies on Valentine’s Day. From cookies to cupcakes, your kids will be ecstatic to see their favorite Valentine’s Day themed goodies. The best part about this gift is the thought and time you put into it. If you kids are young they might not realized how much effort you put into this gift, but if you have any older kids they’ll appreciate the time you took out of you day to put a smile on their face.

Books
If you have a bookworm on your hands, consider buying a book or two for a Valentine’s gift. Not only is this an easy gift to get, but it also provides some educational value as well. You can never go wrong with a book!

5 New Year’s Resolutions for Your Home

With the New Year approaching many people are making their list of New Year’s resolutions. However, most people focus on resolutions for themselves. From eating healthier to staying organized, many individuals forget to think about resolutions for their household. Making home resolutions will undoubtedly help you stay organized in the New Year, so here are five New Year’s resolutions to kick start your 2018!

1. Simplify Your Stuff
Clutter is unavoidable, even if you are the most organized person in the world. This year clear the clutter and keep it that way as one of your New Year’s home resolutions. Throughout the year many individuals acquire a lot of stuff. So go room by room and purge any cabinets and drawers that are cluttered from last year. While cleaning, think about how much you’ve used the particular item in question. If you haven’t used something lately think about parting ways with it or donating it. Once you’ve cleared the clutter, think twice before bringing any new items into your house and make sure that anything you do bring into your home raises your energy level!

2. Shrink your Carbon Footprint
Nothing is better than going green for the New Year! This year reduce your carbon footprint by making minor adjustments to your household to “greener” more environmentally-friendly habits. That doesn’t mean you have to install solar panels or drive a hybrid car. Make minor adjustments and start with cutting your home’s energy usage. Here are some ideas to help you reduce your home’s energy usage!

  • Get smart with your thermostat and turn it down when you leave the house or at night.
  • Install LED lightbulbs around the house.
  • Give composting a try.
  • Only run dishwashers and washers/dryers when they are full.
  • For more ideas to reduce your carbon footprint, click here.

3. Weekly Cleaning System
You can also become more organized by implementing a cleaning schedule for the week for your New Year’s home resolution. By planning a cleaning schedule, you’ll find it easier to clean you home throughout the week. Plus, keeping the mess under control will benefit you greatly. By spreading out home chores throughout the week you’ll have more time to spend with your family or invest in your hobbies. Also, it’s easier to clean in smaller portions than to clean the whole house! So stay on top of cleaning this year and keep any mess under control.

4. Get Ready for Entertaining
Have a little fun this year and entertain family, friends, and guests more in your amazing Judd Builders home! Take a vow to spend more time with those you care about. You’ll have a fantastic time with your friends, family, and neighbors. But if you’re going to be inviting people in, make your resolution to add updates or fresh decor to the rooms you entertain in. You don’t have to go full out and re-design everything, but bring in new elements to your home to create a new energy. Whether it’s creating dramatic presentations with large flower displays or adding new dynamic pillows, your guests will take notice!

5. Volunteer in Your Community
Take some time out of your busy lifestyle and find volunteer opportunities within your community. This is a great home resolution for you and your family because not only are you giving back to your community, but you’re also spending quality time together! Don’t feel like you have to go this alone either. Invite your neighbors and friends to join you and make it a monthly event! There’s nothing better than giving back to your community while getting closing with your family and friends!

Fun New Holiday Traditions to Try Out This Year

Traditions that bring family and friends together each year are wonderful. Everyone likes to feel a part of something that helps them keep the spirit of the season alive. However, sometimes those old traditions can get, well, old. Maybe it’s time to stir things up a bit and mix in some new traditions. Here are some different activities to try out as a family or as a couple to celebrate the holidays and get festive.

Secret Santa
The challenge, should you choose to accept it: each person in the family or group chooses a name to buy for out of a hat – with the added challenge of sticking to a $20 budget! This will encourage people to get creative with their gifts since there is a limited price range on the gifts you can buy.

25 Days of Books
The perfect idea for families with kids (or even grandkids nearby). Purchase 25 different children’s books and wrap them up separately. Starting December 1 – let your little one open up one book to read before bed. This will not only help them count down to Christmas, but gives you and your child the perfect opportunity to sit down and spend some time together reading the book during the busy holiday season.  Select some holiday classics like The Polar Express or gift your childhood favorites such as The Giving Tree. You’ll build up their library while still being in the holiday spirit. The best part about this tradition is you can wrap the same books again each year. Even though the books aren’t new the act of opening up a book and reading it is a surefire way to get in the holiday spirit.

Holiday Bucket
Like advent calendar, grab a bucket and fill it with small little gifts the whole family will enjoy. Wrap up each small gift and number each gift for each day of the month. Open them up one by one as a family and enjoy what each gift has to offer. The gifts can range from drinking hot cocoa with mom and dad before bed or a popular Christmas movie. Get creative and find holiday activities that the whole family will enjoy. Other ideas for gifts include: coloring books, making holiday ornaments, holiday coupons, taking old toys to a homeless shelter etc.

Holiday Giving
The holidays are a perfect opportunity to give back to those in your community. If you love pets – then you can volunteer at a local shelter during the holidays to help out. Or collect old or used blankets to donate to the animal shelter to help keep the animals warm throughout the chilly season. Another fun activity to do as a family or neighborhood is to go caroling at your local nursing home! You can coordinate with their events manager and surprise them during or after dinner one night by going caroling from room to room or in their main meeting area. Some people in the nursing home may be alone during the holidays and getting a nice surprise visit from carolers will bring them so much joy!

You’ve Been Elfed!
This is a great way to celebrate within your community! Start the tradition by putting together a festive basket filled with cookies, candy, and a few different trinkets and leave it on the doorstep of one of your neighbors. Be sure to include an elf, a sign that says “You’ve been elf-ed” and a funny poem.  It will then be your neighbors turn to pass it on and “elf” someone else in the neighborhood. See how long you can keep the tradition going before Christmas hits.  Need some clever inspiration for “elfy” poems, click here.

Santa Sack
This tradition is not only fun and creative, but it also teaches the valuable lesson that Christmas is also about giving back. For this tradition ask you kids to go through their own toys that they don’t really use anymore. Then get a cute little “christmas sack” and put the toys to be donated in the bag. On Christmas Eve leave the Santa Sack under the tree for Santa to pick up and give to other kids in need. When the Santa Sack is gone the next morning it will solidify the magic of Santa!
