Fun Beach Activities

Summer is in full swing and the best place to be during the heat of the summer is the beach! Enjoy a sunny and sandy day at the beach with the whole family and make your next beach vacation or trip more memorable for everyone by including some of these fun games or activities to participate in.

1. Look for Animal Habitats
Turn your beach vacation or trip into a small outdoor lesson by looking for animal habitats and teach your kids about them. From the grasslands and water to the dunes, you’re sure to find some sort of animal habitat to explore and learn about. Don’t forget to talk about the animals that inhabit the area as well!

2. Hopscotch
You don’t need chalk and blacktop to enjoy this activity. Draw a hopscotch course for your kids to play with. When the course gets too easy for them, have them draw their own creative hopscotch course to challenge themselves and their playmates.

3. Build a Sandcastle
Building a sandcastle has become a staple for any beach trip of vacation. Let your kids creativity flow as you build a one-of-a-kind sandcastle! Let them take control over the project, but make sure to give them pointers to help their castle along! Not only will your kids love making the castle, but they’ll love that their parents are helping out!

4. Organize a Relay Race
If you want a fun beach activity that will ignite the spirit of competition, organize a relay race for everyone to participate in! The relay races can be anything too! From racing back and forth from the ocean to a pail and filling it with water to who can build the tallest sand tower, the options for relay races are endless! So get creative and get planning for an awesome relay race that everyone will love!

5. Host a Beach Scavenger Hunt
Make a list of common things you typically find on the beach. Then, have your tiny explorer spend their time trying to find these hidden treasures. This activity is great for kids who aren’t ready or comfortable exploring the ocean yet!

6. Build a Fort
Just like building a sandcastle, building a fort can be just as fun! Get your kids to play along and build a fort where they can hang out and relax when they aren’t enjoying the water.

7. Learn How to Fly A Kite
If the conditions are perfect, why not learn how to fly a kite? Not only is this a new activity for your kids to learn, but it’s also a fun and challenging as well. If your kids end up enjoying kite flying, you’ll always have a beach activity to keep them occupied for future beach trips/vacations!

8. Beach Bowling
You don’t need bowling pins or a bowling ball in order to bowl on the beach. Create tall sand towers in the formation of bowling pins and bring a kickball to use as the bowling ball. Then, have your kids take turns trying to knock the sand towers down! Once all the towers are gone, they can build them again and keep the game going round after round.

9. Beach Bocci Ball
Beach Bocci Ball is the perfect game for kids and adults of all ages. If you have a bocci set make sure to pack it for a fun day full of friendly competition and amusement!

10. Learn Something New
This activity is perfect for anyone to enjoy on a sunny beach day! Find something that you or your kids haven’t learned yet and set out to learn it during your time at the beach. Whether your and your kids are learning to surf or you bring you current book full of new and inspiring information, learning something new is a great activity that the whole family can enjoy!

How to Take a Staycation

It’s that time of year again! The weather is getting warmer, the days are longer, and everyone is enjoying the fresh air! Everyone is also revving up and getting excited about their upcoming vacation plans! However, if you need some time off to rejuvenate, you could always take a staycation instead!

A staycation is the perfect option for those who need time to relax and get out of their usual routine, but don’t want to spend the cash on another luxury getaway. If you’re able to take time off from work, a staycation is a great option to sit back and relax in the comfort of your own home! Also, make sure to spread out when you take your vacation and staycation! You don’t want to take them too close together so you can enjoy both throughout the year! Here are some tips to take the perfect staycation!

Make a Loose Plan
When you plan on taking a staycation, you’ll want to make a loose plan of what you want to do each day. You never want to wake up and think “What now? What do I do today?” Always have a plan for your at-home getaway. However, make sure you don’t overbook yourself and end up being exhausted! Staycations are all about relaxing at home, so make plans but find a nice balance of activities and relaxation!

Don’t Do Any Housework
Vacationing means you get to sit back and relax and hardly do any work, which also applies to a staycation as well. However, when people take staycations they tend to do housework when they are supposed to be relaxing! So before you take your staycation make sure to clean the house beforehand so you don’t end up doing any housework throughout your staycation.

Go Somewhere You Haven’t Been
Have you been eyeing up a restaurant that you have been dying to try? Do you want to explore a nearby town that you’ve heard wonderful things about? Get out and actually do it! Your staycation should disrupt your usual routine, so make a list of things or places you’ve been meaning to visit and choose a few to explore during your staycation.

Get Outside
It’s best not to stay inside during your whole staycation. Try to get outside and enjoy the fresh air! If it’s winter maybe visit a local ski resort, or if its summer find a nearby hiking trail or enjoy any of your favorite outdoor activities!

Stay in Bed
Use your staycation as an excuse to stay in bed at least one time! Staying in bed is one of the best feelings. Not only is it comfortable, but it’s extremely relaxing as well! From sleeping in to devouring a recent best-selling novel, the options are endless when it comes to relaxing and staying in bed.

Binge A Series
If you’re a huge movie or TV buff, you could always binge watch a TV series or have a movie marathon during your staycation. If you’ve been dying to watch a popular series but you’ve never found the time to sit down and watch, now is the perfect time! The best part about binging a series during your staycation is that you can easily enjoy the movie or series with company as well! Invite your friends, family, or neighbors to join your on your staycation and enjoy your time off!

Vacation or staycation, both are just as fun and relaxing! No matter which one you prefer it’s always a great feeling to get out of your usual routine and enjoy some me-time. So take advantage of the warming weather and take a vacation at a luxury resort or a staycation at your own home!

Vacation Forget-Me-Nots

It’s that time of year again. Summer is almost here and everyone can’t wait to enjoy a family vacation this year. However, before you take off and savor your summer vacay, here are some vacation forget-me-nots to keep you relaxed and at ease throughout your vacation!

1. Tell a Neighbor
Whether you leave your house for a small weekend trip or a luxuriously long vacation, you should always tell one of your neighbors or relatives that you’ll be gone. It’s nice to know someone is looking over your empty house and making sure everything is in order while you’re away! Also, if you don’t put a hold on your mail, you could always ask your neighbor to collect your mail for the time being. Just make sure to return the favor while they’re on their vacation!

2. Shut off Water and Set Your AC Higher
To save money and energy, shut off your water and set your AC temperature higher before you leave for vacation. With warmer weather upon us, you are bound to start using the AC more. However, there is no need for air conditioning or water when you are on vacation. Don’t waste energy and money on an empty house!

3. Pet Sitter
If you have any pets at home make sure to take care of their needs too. Whether its dropping them off to a kennel or hiring a pet sitter, you’ll want to make sure your furry friend is taken care of. If you’re able to take your pet on your vacation, even better!

4. Unplug Appliances
Your appliances won’t be in use while you’re away, so make sure you unplug them to save energy and money. Unplug your toaster, coffee maker, blender, chargers, anything you can think of that is plugged in, unplug it!

5. Lock all Windows and Doors
This seems like a given, but you would be surprised how many people forget to lock all their windows and doors when they leave for vacation. So before you leave, double check just to make sure! It will give you peace of mind while you’re trying to relax during vacation.

6. Lower the Blinds
Take an extra step to secure your home and belongings and lower your blinds before you leave. Don’t tempt anyone to look in and see what you own.

7. Leave Some Lights On
Most people turn off all of their lights when they leave the house for an extended period of time. However, it’s smarter to leave some lights on or use a light timer while you’re away. Leaving lights on will give the impression that someone is home, making your home less of a target. However, if you live in one of Judd Builders wonderful planned communities, you won’t have to worry too much about a break-in. Planned communities deter many burglars due to the close-knit community life, but it’s better to be safe than sorry, so keep some lights on while your away.
