Fun New Holiday Traditions to Try Out This Year

Traditions that bring family and friends together each year are wonderful. Everyone likes to feel a part of something that helps them keep the spirit of the season alive. However, sometimes those old traditions can get, well, old. Maybe it’s time to stir things up a bit and mix in some new traditions. Here are some different activities to try out as a family or as a couple to celebrate the holidays and get festive.

Secret Santa
The challenge, should you choose to accept it: each person in the family or group chooses a name to buy for out of a hat – with the added challenge of sticking to a $20 budget! This will encourage people to get creative with their gifts since there is a limited price range on the gifts you can buy.

25 Days of Books
The perfect idea for families with kids (or even grandkids nearby). Purchase 25 different children’s books and wrap them up separately. Starting December 1 – let your little one open up one book to read before bed. This will not only help them count down to Christmas, but gives you and your child the perfect opportunity to sit down and spend some time together reading the book during the busy holiday season.  Select some holiday classics like The Polar Express or gift your childhood favorites such as The Giving Tree. You’ll build up their library while still being in the holiday spirit. The best part about this tradition is you can wrap the same books again each year. Even though the books aren’t new the act of opening up a book and reading it is a surefire way to get in the holiday spirit.

Holiday Bucket
Like advent calendar, grab a bucket and fill it with small little gifts the whole family will enjoy. Wrap up each small gift and number each gift for each day of the month. Open them up one by one as a family and enjoy what each gift has to offer. The gifts can range from drinking hot cocoa with mom and dad before bed or a popular Christmas movie. Get creative and find holiday activities that the whole family will enjoy. Other ideas for gifts include: coloring books, making holiday ornaments, holiday coupons, taking old toys to a homeless shelter etc.

Holiday Giving
The holidays are a perfect opportunity to give back to those in your community. If you love pets – then you can volunteer at a local shelter during the holidays to help out. Or collect old or used blankets to donate to the animal shelter to help keep the animals warm throughout the chilly season. Another fun activity to do as a family or neighborhood is to go caroling at your local nursing home! You can coordinate with their events manager and surprise them during or after dinner one night by going caroling from room to room or in their main meeting area. Some people in the nursing home may be alone during the holidays and getting a nice surprise visit from carolers will bring them so much joy!

You’ve Been Elfed!
This is a great way to celebrate within your community! Start the tradition by putting together a festive basket filled with cookies, candy, and a few different trinkets and leave it on the doorstep of one of your neighbors. Be sure to include an elf, a sign that says “You’ve been elf-ed” and a funny poem.  It will then be your neighbors turn to pass it on and “elf” someone else in the neighborhood. See how long you can keep the tradition going before Christmas hits.  Need some clever inspiration for “elfy” poems, click here.

Santa Sack
This tradition is not only fun and creative, but it also teaches the valuable lesson that Christmas is also about giving back. For this tradition ask you kids to go through their own toys that they don’t really use anymore. Then get a cute little “christmas sack” and put the toys to be donated in the bag. On Christmas Eve leave the Santa Sack under the tree for Santa to pick up and give to other kids in need. When the Santa Sack is gone the next morning it will solidify the magic of Santa!

Reasons To Build a New Home with Judd Builders

If you’re ready to move out of your existing home or perhaps buy your very first home, you may be wondering if now is the right time. Have you considered new construction? There are many benefits to this choice, plus everything is brand new! Here are some reasons why it’s smart to buy a new construction home from Judd Builders, as well as timing considerations to think about:

  • Build a home with a brand new design that you can add your personal style to!
  • No surprises because you can preview models and check floor plans before you move in.
  • You can customize different aspects of your home including kitchen cabinets, granite countertops, flooring, paint colors & more!
  • Updated appliances for convenience and efficiency.
  • You can choose a floor plan and layout that meets your family’s needs
  • All new materials, featuring the latest building technologies and modern designs to provide years of enjoyment before you need to replace anything. Move into an older, pre-owned home and you never know what’s going to break down next.
  • Energy-saving components, such as windows, HVAC, and appliances.
  • Take advantage of our planned communities, which often feature swimming pools, club houses, and more. One example of this is the clubhouse at The Reserve at Creekside.
  • The latest in safety features, such as circuit breakers, wiring, electric garage door openers with infrared safety detection beams, eco-friendly coolants, and carpeting and paints that have fewer VOCs.

Perhaps the best reason to build your own a new home is that YOU are the one making memories there! You’re not intruding on someone else’s memories or fixing their problems. That new home feel just can’t be achieved with a pre-owned home.

Timing

Sometimes the timing just feels right. Perhaps your finances are finally in order, you’re ready for an upgrade, your family is growing and you’re running out of space…there are many timing considerations that come into play. Timing is definitely important. If you have kids, you’ll want to consider their schooling – so moving during the summer, will help them start the new school year in the new home. The real estate market is cyclical – so when you find a good home, for the right price – then it’s your time to buy! Springtime is often the busiest time of the year to buy a home, but, with Judd Builders, we have homes for sale in a variety of communities throughout the year.

If you need help to find your new brand new home, or need even more reasons to build new, contact Judd Builders today!

Spooktacular Halloween Party Themes

Halloween is just around the corner, which means there will be an abundance of candy trick-or-treaters, and you guessed it Halloween parties! Everyone has been to a typical Halloween costume party. Even though these parties are fun there is nothing unique about them. So instead of throwing a stereotypical costume party, here are some unique party themes that are sure to be frighteningly fun!

1. Black and White Theme
If you’d rather have a dinner party with your friends and neighbors than throw a full on bash, consider a black and white theme. Achieve this look by making all of your decor black and white. Think stark white plates on a black tablecloth with a spider web design, black candles in white holders, or even white and black pumpkins. Whatever you decide to do make sure to really stick with the theme and only use black and white. When it all comes together it will be an extremely chic look.

2. Monster Mash
Nothing screams Halloween like a monster mash! Use the popular Halloween song to your advantage and throw your own monster mash, which is the perfect theme for adults and kids. Get creative and adorn your house with monster like decorations and ask your guests to come dressed up as classic “monsters.”

3. Haunted House
Turning your home into a haunted house is a classic. Make every room a different haunted theme and go all out. If your running low on decoration ideas check out Pinterest, there are always an abundance of ideas to help you decorate.

4. Autumn Harvest Party
If you want to avoid a costume party you can always throw an autumn harvest party instead. This theme focuses more on fall decorations rather than Halloween. So get crafty with pumpkins and hay and stay true to the fall season by serving drinks and deserts that remind you of the season.

5. Murder Mystery
This theme is considered a classic, but murder mystery parties are hardly thrown nowadays. This idea takes a lot of creativity and imagination, but once you create the story and pinpoint your murderer your party will come together. If you decide to throw a murder mystery party make sure to tailor the invitations for each guest and make specific costume requests. Once your guests arrive announce the general plot and drop some clues throughout the party to help them solve the mystery! The interactivity throughout the night will be a big hit with your guests, making your party one to remember.

6. Frightening Flicks
Classic horror films are a staple of Halloween. Throw a party inspired by your favorite flicks and have your guests dress up as their favorite horror figure. Also, if you aren’t keen on throwing a big party this theme is perfect for you. Invite a close group of friends to create the ultimate list of horror films to watch throughout the night.

7. Heroes vs. Villains
Superheroes have been on the rise for quite some time. They have become some of the most popular costumes for kids and adults alike. So why not throw a superhero themed party? This theme is easy to create and also kid friendly! However, don’t forget about the villains! Every superhero is only as good as their villain; so don’t exclude your guests from dressing up as their favorite baddie!

8. Masquerade
Take a twist on the classic costume party and throw a masquerade party instead. In classic masquerade fashion, everyone should dress up and wear masks.

9. Harry Potter, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Alice in Wonderland
If you’re having a Halloween party that is strictly for kids think about having a Harry Potter, The Nightmare Before Christmas, or Alice in Wonderland theme. The whimsical stories are kid friendly and have endless possibilities for decorating!
