Savvy Storage Ideas

Creative ways to store everything in your home without clutter!

shelvesWhether you have a small space to contend with or you have a spacious home at your disposal, it’s always desirable to find ways in which to de-clutter your living space. Storage is the name of the game, but it doesn’t have to LOOK like storage. You can get creative with how you display and store your stuff to minimize the clutter for a stress-free abode.

Kitchen

The kitchen is typically where many of us find clutter. Whether you tend to throw pots and pans in a cupboard or all your mismatched utensils in a drawer, it’s time to bring it all together for a no muss, no fuss approach to storage. No need to add square footage: add shelves to existing fixtures. For example, add recessed shelves to your kitchen island, with small cubbies for wine and larger shelves for electronics and small appliances, says Better Homes and Gardens. Not only do you get a convenient workspace, you also get to maximize your storage.

Under the Stairs

Got some space under your stairs? Don’t waste this space. Instead, add a butler’s pantry that adds function and storage to an otherwise unused space. This is the perfect space for storing hardly-used serving pieces, utensils and fine China that you only whip out when company comes over. Another idea is to add a recycling center featuring roll-out bins that  keep recyclables separate and out of sight from the rest of the home.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms are notoriously small, so make the most use of the space you have. Try adding a shallow marble ledge and vanity with wall-mounted faucet where you can store your many bath supplies and toiletries. Not only does this add space to the room, your stuff is now within easy reach when getting ready in the morning. If you have a pedestal sink (read: no storage!), add a pair of slim cabinets on either side with shelving to store your towels, bath supplies and more with sliding doors that you don’t need to swing out if space is limited.

Kids’ Rooms

Utilize wall space in cramped rooms by installing shallow shelves for books and collectibles around the windows. Put in a comfortable window seat that pulls double duty as a reading nook and storage for blankets, stuffed animals and books. Add cubbies with bins and assign each child a color for easy retrieval of their belongings. This will cut down on the fighting over whose toys are whose!
